Quincy King

My name is Quincy King and the best way to describe my life is like a Rubiks cube.  When all the pieces are in the right spots, things move accordingly but when the cube is messed up, life is more stressful than colorful.  This blog was made for JRNL 202 in the spring semester of 2024 at Southern Illinois University.

I started my life in DuQuoin, Illinois and at the age of 8 moved to West Frankfort.  I have always wondered how different my life would be if I would have stayed in DuQuoin and went to High School there.  I have always been fascinated with sports and grew up playing sports when I was a little child.  My favorite time of the year is in October during the World Series and getting to watch those games.  Baseball has been the biggest sport to impact my life as I would say is my first love that didn't break my heart.

I started after sports getting very involved in solving puzzles and Rubik's cubes to be exact.  I started off trying to figure out the methods you can do to solve one.  I have always been very into math and things of those nature and then realized that cubes are to be treated like math.  When you get to a certain move on a Rubik's cube you have to use a certain algorithm to solve it.  It is all about placement and what algorithms to use in those placements' sequences.  After figuring that out I got pretty fast at doing it.  My record time for solving a Rubik's cube got down to 47 seconds when I was in my prime.
